On the 10th of the current month, the release of the site scrolling Jrpg Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and its review were delayed for some reason unknown to me. At the moment, the game is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and personal computers via GOG, EGS and Steam. Moreover, in EGS right now it can be purchased for less than 900 rubles thanks to the sale and an additional 25% discount from the store. It is worth doing it or not, you should decide, and my task is to tell about the game.
Plot
The story follows the young adventurers named Tina, who needs to find a huge rune lens to pass the rite of initiation in her hometown. For these purposes, the girl arrived in the new Navei, next to which there are dungeons where the object of her searches may be. The entrance there, however, is not open to everyone, and the visitors need to buy a pass or earn it for collecting seals from local residents. The heroine, of course, does not have money, and therefore go to help everyone we see.
I’m not going to retell the entire plot of the game, but I note that the story is not bad, and the main characters are more than pleasant. Among the latter, we have: Tina herself, the mayor of New Navei Aisha and the harsh swordsman-Kanguro Garu.
Game process
As I already said above and in my preview of the project, we have Sidskroller with all the ensuing platforming and other charms. The fighting is tied to the fact that three playable characters are distinguished by the style of fighting, as well as special skills. Thanks to the proper combination of heroes’s attacks, you can apply great damage to thick opponents in a short period of time, and the blinks of mud and Garu blocks allow you to avoid sending to the last preservation. The latter, by the way, is exclusively manual, and I am extremely not recommended to skip signs with this possibility.
At the same time, only one hero can be on the screen, and therefore it will be necessary to change the characters to combine the characters. This can be done both manually and automatically (choice for the player). Automation will change the hero immediately after the end of the basic set of attacks, and therefore I would still recommend that I switch the heroes with their hands. This will be useful to avoid damage in tense battles, and part of the monsters and bosses on the head can be tapped very quickly.
In addition to the battles in the game, there is a collection of resources that will need to be engaged not only for pumping yourself, but also for the urban planning element of the game, as well as for some quests from NPC. Moreover, quests are sometimes really interesting in terms of the script, but gameplay is reduced to “bring-sweaty”, which is expected.
And since it came to pumping, then a little about such. Each character has a set of characteristics in the form of health, physical/magical attack, protection against physical and magical damage, a chance of critical damage and good luck. They are pumped by increasing the hero level, as well as when replacing and improving equipment elements.
I must say right away that the player will face the fact that certain “Dange” will have to go through several times. This is due to the fact that for one entry, only a limited amount of resources can be collected, and they may be necessary a little more. Another reason is that you will come across closed paths that open either after receiving a new hero, or after performing a plot or additional quest. Garu, for example, can break large boulders with the help of her huge sword. Also, the presence of certain segments may affect the presence of abilities in characters.
I note that it is the back-crew that is not enough in the game, but to pass into the new zone you have to run through already familiar locations. To facilitate all this situation will be quick movement using signs on which you maintain progress.
Appearance
As I said in my preview, the game looks very beautiful. The fact that the pixel characters are still a little concerned about the perfectly drawn three-dimensional environment, and I think that the heroes painted by hand (as in afterimage) would look just incomparable in this surroundings, but the developers decided to do as they did and not I can judge them. Models of heroes, by the way, are also three-dimensional and only stylized for pixel art. Sometimes this is striking, but you do not notice most of the time, and smooth animations at any personnel frequency additionally compensate for this minus.
As for the optimization of the project, I praised it before, and now my opinion has not changed, but I have something to add. To pass the demo version, I had only my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, which gives about 40-45 frames in the game at 4K, but now I also have AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, with which you can get 140-150 frames already With the same 4K. We limit the frame of 60 (if there is no faster monitor) and enjoy. I have not met any problems with performance in Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, and I didn’t stumble upon bugs. If your experience is different from mine, it will be interesting to read about him in the comments on this review.
Results
In the end, we have a solid game that looks great and is pleasantly playing, and even provides a pretty good plot. Since my preview based on demo, however, the opinion about the musical accompaniment of the project has changed. It is not bad, do not think, but I can’t say more than “it is here”. The complete passage, by the way, took me about 9 hours. If you buy a discount game at EGS, then the purchase is more than worthy, but 1,500 rubles in Steam are not quite. From myself, I put the game 7 out of 10 points (at a discount 8) and recommend that you look at some sale in the future, if you suddenly have an allergy to the Epic Games store. However, I do not think that even after a waste of 1,500 rubles on this game you will remain in the red, but here I can no longer be completely confident and everything depends on each individual person. Ah, yes, the game is completely translated into Russian and is available without any restrictions.
