The 2022 edition of E3 has been canceled.
The Entertainment Software Association, the group organized by the Fair, has communicated the cancellation through an email; The first news we had of this communication came through a tweet of Will Powers, PR de Razer (on these lines), and soon after IGN has confirmed the content of the email.
This E3 2022 was going to be only digital, after the plans to make a face-to-face edition will be canceled at the beginning of the year. Although the existence of a digital edition was not confirmed, that was the alternative by which ESA was decanted by 2021, after having canceled the fair entirely by 2020 by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The reasons for the total cancellation of E3 2022 are still unknown, although sources of IGN seem to suggest that there has not been a great interest in carrying out a digital edition this year. According to those same sources, it seems that the current plan happens to organize a "return" event in 2023.
The summer calendar of events remains like that without one of its most veteran appointments. It has not been the only one who will be absent this year; Electronic Arts recently announced that its EA PLAY will not be held this year either, and that they will choose to make a series of digital emissions throughout the year centered on specific titles. Meanwhile, the Great European Fair, the Gamescom de Cologne, will be held in person from August 24 to 28. June, so, it becomes the month of the Summer Game Fest of Geoff Keighley, which has not been slow to react to the cancellation of E3.
