The first full season of Valorant Esports has probably even surpassed the high expectations of Riot Games. The first season of the Valorant Champions Tour of the FPS game will come to an end shortly and complete a year full of outstanding auditor numbers and some great crashes in a handful of LAN events.
For 2022, however, the Valorant Champions Tour is a little wrappered. While the three key stages of the competition remain the same — these are Challengers, Masters and Champions — the regular season is summarized in only two instead of three stages. That is, there are only two Masters events — but both will be international LAN's.
The two Challengers events also receive a new format. A huge open qualifying tournament leads to a league-style weekly competition in which the best teams compete against each other in an end tournament to qualify for the Master.
The championship at the end of the year, Champions, is also moved to an earlier date a year, from December to September. This enables a correct offense at the end of 2022, in which teams can recreate the squad and third-party tournament organizers can be given the opportunity to organize their own unique events, similar to Valorant Esports with Ignition Series began.
This low season will also host a VCT Game Changers LAN, in which the best women's teams of the Game Changers come together in order to personally compete against each other.
Although the details are not yet known, it is planned to operate country-specific leagues throughout the year to repeat the success, the League of Legends had in the transport of young talents through the ranks with regional leagues that are below the main competitions like the LEC. These are initially introduced in European countries before hopefully set up on other continents.
In order to further promote the VCT, Riot also plans to integrate game plans into the client of Valorant and, as Valorant-Director Anna London reveals, new opportunities to support your favorite teams. Although no details are given, this sounds very like team cosmetics.
There will also be a new way to play competitive Valorant, which goes beyond the simple climbing of the Valorant ranks and forms a team and starting on a larger stage. Again, no details were mentioned, but it seems that next year, a kind of tournament system in the game could be on the way.
In 2021 was perhaps a big year for Valorant eSports, but 2022 tries to beat capital and repair some cracks in its generally strong armor.
